I'M INTERESTED IN SERVINGWHAT WE EXPECT
A note from your worship director

Welcome

Hey there,

Whether you've been serving at Fusion for years or you're just wondering if this might be for you, I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for your heart to serve. I'm grateful for you already.

I'm not here to run a program. I'm here to get to know you, walk alongside you, and lead worship with you. A worship team is first a family of people learning to follow Jesus together, and I want us to be that: close, honest, and joyful.

This site is a short guide to who we are and what we hope for each other. It isn't a rulebook. It's one shared picture, so we can serve with clarity and joy. Wherever you are right now, confident or nervous, experienced or just starting, there's a place for you.

Bring your questions anytime. I'd love to hear them, over coffee, after a service, or by phone or email. It would be a privilege to pray for you as you think this through.

In Christ,

Benjamin

BENJAMIN SELDEN · WORSHIP ARTS DIRECTOR

Our worship ministry

One Team, One Calling

Singers, musicians, and tech volunteers serve together as one worship team.

What we are

A worship team is a group of people responsible for helping lead the congregation in worship on Sundays. The sound you hear, the slides you see, and the songs we sing are all one ministry, not separate departments.

Why we exist

Our purpose goes beyond playing music. It isn't just about hitting the right notes, it's about carrying the heart of the songs. Worship is a two-way conversation between God and his people, and we act as a bridge: removing distractions so the congregation can meet with God.

How we see it

Serving on this team is a ministry, not a performance. We never want people watching us. We want them looking at Jesus.

"Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!"Psalm 100:2, ESV
Roles & responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

Every role contributes something different. Clear communication and a shared commitment to growth keep us moving together.

Worship Leader

Plans services, selects songs, leads rehearsals, and mentors the team.

Singers

Lead the congregation in song, harmonize, and model authentic worship.

Musicians

Provide the musical foundation and blend into one cohesive sound, staying responsive to the leader.

Sound & Tech

Run sound, slides, and cameras so the congregation can focus on worship.

The full description of every role is in the team handbook.

Serving together

Our Rhythm of Serving

Sundays

We serve at our 9am and 11am gatherings. Arrive early enough to be set up, warmed up, and settled before we begin. Call time is 7:30am.

Thursday rehearsal

Required every week you're scheduled, so we can learn the songs and the flow together. Rehearsal starts at 5:30pm.

Where we're headed: one team, six-week rhythms

Our goal is to serve as one team, scheduled in six-week blocks. Before each block, we'd ask how many Sunday and Thursday combinations you can commit to, and build the calendar around your number. You'd block out dates you can't serve in our scheduling tool (we're currently trying out Worship Tools), and if you can't make Thursday practice, you'd block out that whole week. We're working this out together, so your feedback shapes it.

Ways to serve

There's a place for you whether you sing, play, or run the tech.

Team expectations

What We Expect

These aren't meant to be burdensome. They're here to build unity, excellence, and genuine worship.

Commitment

Be consistent, be on time, and be reliable. The team depends on you.

Teamwork

Communicate with kindness, set ego aside, and keep a positive attitude.

Spiritual preparedness

Worship on Sunday flows from prayer, Scripture, and a heart of service the rest of the week.

Skill & growth

Keep improving, stay open to feedback, and learn the songs in good time.

The full expectations are in the team handbook.

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."1 Peter 4:10, ESV

Values We Hope to Share

Five words that describe who we hope to be, and what each one looks like in practice.

CommittedServantEncouragerHumblePrepared

Practice

Practice regularly. Arrive having listened to and practiced the week's songs, and be ready to adjust when the setlist changes.

Punctuality

Punctuality is crucial. Be on time, set up, and ready, so we can begin as one team.

Attendance

Prioritize rehearsals and services, barring unforeseen circumstances. The team relies on you, so tell us early when something comes up.

Healthy team

Staying United

Any team this close, serving something this meaningful, will have hard moments. Here's how we handle them.

Hard moments will come. When they do, go directly to the person with kindness, and if that doesn't resolve it, bring in me or a pastor to help. We seek resolution, not victory.

The full approach is in the team handbook.

Getting started

Spiritual & Life Assessment

Before we talk about music, we want to know you. This helps us make sure serving on this team is a good fit for where you are right now.

Step 1

A short questionnaire

A few questions about your faith story, your church attendance, and how you would define worship in your own words. There are no wrong answers.

FILL IT OUT BELOW

Find it just below, under "Tell Us About You."

Step 2

A conversation

An in-person chat with me, the worship director. It's a chance to get to know each other, hear your story, and make sure your season of life has room for this kind of commitment.

Your First Steps

  1. Read this site. Take your time and see if this feels like a good fit.
  2. Ask questions. Write down anything you're wondering about. I'd love to hear it.
  3. Send me an email. Tell me a little about yourself and your interest in serving.
  4. Schedule a meeting. We'll sit down together, get to know each other, and talk through your story.
  5. Audition. A relaxed time to play, sing, or try out your tech role with us. We care about your heart more than perfection.
  6. Pray about it. Ask God where he is leading you, and let's take the next step together.

Two things are all you need to get set up: Worship Tools and the team handbook.

Worship Tools Planning

This is where everything for the week lives. I'll send you your own invite by email once you're on the team. Accept it, create your account, then use it to:

  • See when you're scheduled and block out dates you can't serve
  • Find the setlist, charts, and reference tracks
  • Get team messages and updates

Haven't received your invite yet? Contact me and I'll send it.

Team handbook

Roles, expectations, how Sundays and Thursdays run, and what to do when you can't make it. Read it once, then come back to it whenever you have a question.
