iPad Mixing at Practice

For nights with no sound tech. The goal is simple: make sure everyone has sound so practice can start. It doesn't need to be a Sunday mix.

iPad must be on

Board Wi‑Fi

The mixer app only sees the X32 on the board's own network. Switch back to Fusion Wi‑Fi for Presenter Remote.

Set up

  1. Grab the iPadIt lives next to the Presenter computer in the booth.
  2. Turn on the X32Make sure the board is powered on in the booth.
  3. Join the board Wi‑Fi on the iPadSettings → Wi‑Fi → board network. It will say "No Internet." That's normal.
  4. Open the mixer app and connectChoose the X32 from the list it finds.
  5. Check you're liveNudge one fader and watch or hear it change, then put it back.

Get sound going

  1. Unmute what you're usingMake sure each mic and instrument channel on stage is unmuted.
  2. Check each one makes soundHave each person sing or play for a few seconds. Nudge any fader that's too quiet or too loud.
  3. Everyone sets their own monitor on their P16The iPad only runs the main mix in the room.
  4. Keep the room level modestBring the main fader up only as far as the band needs.

OK to touch

  • Channel faders and mutes
  • Main fader for overall volume

Leave alone

  • Gain, routing and setup pages
  • Scenes: never load or save one
  • Pan: we don't pan at Fusion
  • Monitor sends: the P16s handle monitors
  • Main bus EQ and effects

Fix it

The app can't find the board
  1. Check the iPad is on board Wi‑Fi, not Fusion Wi‑Fi.
  2. Check the X32 is powered on.
  3. Close and reopen the app, then connect again.
Feedback (squeal or ring)
  1. Pull down the fader of the mic you were just raising.
  2. Can't tell which? Pull down the main fader, then bring it back slowly.
  3. Keep mics pointed away from speakers.
Someone can't hear themselves
  • Check their channel isn't muted.
  • On their P16, check the volume knob and that channel's level are up.
  • Check the P16 cable is plugged in and its lights are on.
A channel makes no sound at all
  • Check the mute, then the cable and the mic or instrument on stage.
  • Still silent? Leave it and tell Benjamin rather than changing settings.

Wrap up

  1. Bring the main fader downBefore anyone unplugs anything.
  2. Leave the rest as it isDon't reset faders or save a scene. The Sunday tech sets the board for service.
  3. Switch the iPad back to Fusion Wi‑FiSo the next person can use Presenter Remote. Put it back next to the Presenter computer.
iPad Presenter RemoteRunning slides too? That needs Fusion Wi‑Fi.
